Massage Updates:
"Lighting Your Way To Good Health"
Welcome to February. This has been an amazing winter so far. There has been little snow and decent driving conditions. Unfortunately, the people who enjoy their winter sports have been limited in some aspects considering the weather. Although winter is not quite over yet, here is what we have planned at Lighthouse.
February 14th - It is Valentine's Day at Lighthouse. We want to spoil our customers. Couple's Massage is a perfect to include for your day. We have multiple staff at Lighthouse that can accomodate booking both you and your loved one for a Massage during the same time slot. We also have gift certificates available if you would like to spoil your sweetie. If you are looking for a relaxation massage, why not come in for our relaxation tea "serenitea" before the massage. Ask to have an aromatherapy massage and we will use lavendar essential oil for its calming effects. It's not too late to book in advance today, contact the clinic.
February 20th (the week of) - it is family day at Lighthouse too. Children benefit from massage as well. Each specific age group deals with particualar issues. Generally, children are free from ailments that are more frequent with middle aged, or even the elderly. There is some truth to this, but children still use their muscles as we do. They are still prone to tightness in their muscles from their daily activities. Children also deal with sore muscles from growing, and even playing sports. They still have to deal with issues that are biomechanical in nature. For example, fallen arches and over pronation is commonly reffered to as "flat feet". Book time for the whole family to have a postural assessment and learn how your body is compensating. Contact the clinic for more information.
Resistance Band Training:
Resistance Bands are rubber bands that help you to strengthen your muscles. They come in many different colours, each indicating a different resistance. They are an exercise tool designed for you to use at your home, clinic, or even gym. Resistnace bands are a tool that are versatile for a variety of exercises for a few different reasons. They are long enough to wrap around your ankle or immovable object to do exercises for the upper or lower body. Depending on where you position your hands, will determine how much resistance you have. Therefore, as you become stronger you can increase your resistance. They are inexpensive and they are easy to store.
At Lighthouse, we are concerned for our clients health and are dedicated in seeing results for our clients. We believe in the benefits of massage and see the improvements in our clients when they also take part in their own health. At Lighthouse, our therapists assign exercises to emphasize the work we accomplish in our Massage Therapy treatments. Shovelling Snow
The repetitive nature of snow shovelling frequently leads to symptoms of back pain and muscle spasm.Even those individuals who are normally very active, may find it is easy to injure their backs shovelling snow. The good news, Massage Therapy treatments can be helpful in relieving pain, speeding recovery time for quick return to normal daily activities and preventing the pain from worsening or recurring.
Save Your Back When Shovelling
1. Select a proper shovel: Make sure your shovel has a curved handles, with plastic lightweight blades.The curved handle helps to keep your back straight while lifting the snow filled shovel off the ground. Make sure the handle of the shovel reaches your chest.
2.Warm up first: Shovelling is a combination of weightlifting and cardiovascular exercise. Like anyother exercise, make sure you warm up first to avoid injury.
3. Technique: Space you hands apart for leverage. Feet shoulder width apart. Bend at your knees, not at your waist. Tighten your core muscles when lifting. Keep your head down and in a straight line with your back. Keep shovel close to your body, try not to extend your arms. Minimize how far you carry snow. Shovel deep snow layer by layer.
4. Talk to your Doctor: Shovelling snow is hard on your heart and your back. If you have heart trouble, or risks of heart disease, talk to your Doctor first.
