Canada Day History:

Did  you know… Canada Day marks the  anniversary of the Constitutional Act of 1867, which joined all the provinces into a single country. Canadians were not given complete  independence until 1982 from England. The  first official Canada Day festivities were held in 1917 for Canada’s 50th  birthday. Canada Day used to be known as Dominion Day until it  was officially changed in 1982. In the 1960’s, Canada Day began to be televised.   In the 1980’s the government started to fund Canada day activities in smaller  communities. “O Canada” was named the official national anthem on Canada  Day, 1980.
